I've made cinnamon apple sauce ornaments for years with my pre-kindergarten children. I use a recipe from my sister - 3/4 cup apple sauce and a 4.12 oz bottle of cinnamon. Mix the dough with your hands [I've gone to using surgical gloves so my hands are not brown any more :)], press out dough with hands - on table top is fine, use a cookie cutter, poke a hole with a straw and set to dry on wax paper or foil or napkins. Turning every day for about 2 or 3 days. No oven. Easy clean up. And, boy will your room smell nice!
