A few years ago in Wyoming, my brother and I were driving south. Far off to our east was storm clouds, about 5-6 miles away. The sky was blue without a cloud in bright sunshine. Had our windows down. Heard a loud clap and off to out right, west side of the road about 1/4 mile away smoke was coming from sage brush. The ground was flat no high trees, rocks or other.. Lightening found a place it liked covering that distance. Learned then and still believe lightening can come out of the blue. Crazy how nature can be at times.
