In my case it's from Fibromyalgia. And among suffers of Fibro its commonly referred to as Fibro fog. Its more common than you think. Remembering something by association really helps. Also thinking back. Such as going from one room to another to get something, and hitting the "wind tunnel" that blows what you came in for out of your mind. I will think back to what I was doing just before I walked into the room and then I will remember what I came in for.
