Go to your Farmers market and look for packages of discounted garlic bulbs I got 5 whole garlics in a package for 0.65¢ a package . Score! I bought as much as I could. Took them and cut the pieces in half, scraped some to bring the smell out. I put them, peelings ECT throughout my garden. Organic, cheap bug, rabbit, squirrel , deer deterrent and it works! Just put the garlic in a freezer bag and toss in your freezer then replenish around your garden as needed.
How do you hand pollinate your own plants?
With a q- tip!
I always hand pollinate my bush squash so I can keep them covered. I keep my vining squash covered until they start making female blossoms. It's a pain but it's the only way I can defeat the squash bugs and get any squash.
I would try improving your overall soil condition; maybe your soil is too alkaline or too acidic which attracts these garden-bugs; (there are Soil ph tests);
If you're one of those gardeners who refuses to use Sevin, an insecticide that dissipates and does not harm plants or animals, then you probably will have bugs for life.
If you don't believe my claim, READ UP ON IT BEFORE YOU GO BANANAS. Peace!
squash bugs , and stink bugs, have developed resistance to seven dust...it is ineffective in north carolina squash and stink bugs.....you must use a special type of super seven to have any effect...see your local feed and seed store....
I read and tried wrapping my finger with duct tape. The eggs and the bugs stick to it, it works perfectly.
There is a very simple way to avoid getting squash bugs and cucumber beetles at all. Simply do not sow your seeds until the middle of June. By the time your plants are up and have their first primary leaves those insects are long gone...on to other gardens where the food source is up and tasty. It will NOT DELAY your harvesting by much as it is warmer by mid June and the plants catch up quickly. I'm 76 and this was my grandfather's practice.
Is this for specific zones? I’m in zone 7a
