Prevent Fungus Gnat Infestations!

What you are doing is certainly benefiting your plants, but if you want to do even more, you can add nematodes to the soil of your houseplants.
What has worked best for me is watering my plants with a drop of dawn dishwashing soap.
Thanks for sharing what has worked for you, Ana!
The yellow sticky traps combined with ne oil:)
Fortunately, living in the desert seems to make fungus gnats less of a problem for me, but when I lived in more humid climates, I had good success with Bacillus thuringiensis isrealensis. It doesn’t kill on contact and takes a few weeks to work, but it does work.
I’ve never had a problem with new potting soil being infected, but I’m sure it happens. I make sure there are no tears in the bag when I buy it, and after I’ve opened the bag, I twist the top closed and secure it with a rubber band. I actually do this so I don’t spill soil all over the place when I move the bags (I’m a klutz), but it probably keeps bugs out too.
It is untrue that Fungus Gnats are harmless to humans, though it may be PRACTICALLY true that most forms we encounter around the home and garden are not an immediate risk, or at least not any greater than what is already going on inside our bodies. The fungus gnat larvae, or an ancient near-relative, inhabit human bodies at a very deep and subtle level. This parasitic incursion may have been aided/facilitated by psilocybin mushrooms, as psilocybin mimics our own native DMT, and hijacks those neurological pathways, whilst "leaving a door open". We will not find a lot of information about this online, because it is not a "typical parasitic phenomenon" but rather engulfs all of humanity, and is responsible for much of our civilizational abstraction and development throughout history... Not to mention the grip/influence they have on our sensory faculties and experience. I know this seems like a wildly inappropriate comment for this webpage, but it might actually be THE MOST appropriate... <3 As far as dealing with them in soil... Neem Seed Meal soil drench helps, but does not eliminate. Introducing BTI (bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) with watering seems VERY promising, but I am just beginning this regimen so cannot yet speak to the results. Introducing beneficial insects like predatory mites and rove beetles is also helpful.
I was curious about your comment, because one of the MOST annoying things I found about these gnats is that they try to fly up your nose (attracted by the moisture). It's absolutely disgusting. They also fly into you water glass and if you are not careful, you might just drink the stupid thing and who knows what eggs might be in it.
From what I read it is not supposed to be harmless to humans, but who knows with the internet these days. So much information is always being scrubbed. If you have information how to get rid of any such larvae, please pass it on. I'm wondering if it would be similar to needing some kind of dewormer.
I have read they dislike scents like peppermint, lavender, lemon. So have been trying to put that around us and the house while we try to get rid of them.
Typical parasitic phenomenon and deep and subtle level? I wonder if MB is on another planet. I'd like to see some evidence and citations for the content of this post as anything even near the size of a fungus gnat larvae inhabiting human bodies would be highly researched and documented. I did see someone commented on allergies and orchids. That being said one can develop allergies to insects and vanilla orchid sap is caustic (causes burns) and some workers in vanilla orchid plantations do develop allergies to the plants.
I have developed terrible allergies and also noticed I have fungus gnats. I read your response because I am curious as to how one develops allergies out of nowhere. The home I work in also has a lot of orchids, and I thought I was allergic to them. trying to find an answer. Also heard that hydrogen peroxide kills fungus gnats
