When I was just a kid, many years ago, we had a very big blueberry field and we used to burn half of it over about every 5 years. We got no blueberries from the burned field that year but the following year the yield was really big. We never fertilized or sprayed any insecticide on it so they were edible as we picked. They were all hand-pickled, no rakes, and we froze gallons of them, made jams and jellies, and they were always fresh tasting. We never used any spice except Allspice. No cinnamon, or anything except Allspice. My mother and grandmother did add a bit of tapioca to pies so they weren't runny.
