Planting, Growing, and Caring for Hyacinths
ADVERTISEMENT
I purchased a Hyacinths from Aldias that is in a glass vase with water. There are roots going down to the bottom of the vase. There are 2 tiny bulbs attached to the bottom/side of the original bulb with new leaves growing from these small bulbs.
The problem is that the large bulb is having trouble staying in the vase and keeps falling out as the small bulbs are pushing up on the large bulb.
How can I save all 3 of these bulbs?
Remove the plant from the vase and place it in a bigger container with water or plant it in a container with soil.
My hyacinth was doing very EILL up until a few weeks ago, when I noticed that the emerging petals were turning brown and dry although the rest of the plant was, and still is, green and healthy. It got worse and worse and I didn't know what was going wrong, but this evening I touched the centre petals, which were now all completely dry and brown (almost like a pine cone in shape, colour and consistency) but the entire section fell off into my hands. I too, the plant to get a better view and saw grey fuzzy mound in the centre of the plant, which I removed, and I left the rest of the healthy plant back in its place. My question is this: is there any way that the plant can flower again next year' or is it completely dead? Also hat can I do to prevent this happening again? Thanks so much!
I got mine hyacinth flower with glass jar with water in it.can I take it and plant in soil now my bulb doesn't to stand in jar no more it keeps falling over.
Please see other questions and answers on this page about growing hyacinths in glass jars or vases and then storing or planting the bulbs to have blooms next season.
I have the same question as Mary Cobb. I did my best to read questions and replies. I went all the way to April 2014! Please help, now I'm overwhelmed with what to do with this beautiful, fragrant flower that I bought in a hourglass shape vase, the bulb is supported out of the water. Lots of long roots. But it is tipping way over. Anything I can do ? Right now I'm trying to prop it. Also, I don't have a place to plant outside. How do I keep it as indoor only plant. Do I try to find bigger vases to support them in water? Thank you.
You can move the hyacinth to a bigger vase with water or plant it carefully in a pot with soil. The flower will fade and the leaves will turn brown. When the plant has died back you can remove the leaves and lift the bulb. Let the bulb dry and then store it in a paper bag. For it to bloom again it needs to be chilled for 8 to 10 weeks and then planted in fresh soil.
I recently received three hyacinth plants already flowering. Can I transplant each bulb into its own pot and continue to grow in the house?
I have a violet hyacinth that I got one month back in a pot. I kept it outside and watered till it bloomed. Our weather her is about 20 degC at night and can reach 30 during the day. When the flowers turned brown, I cut the stem about 2 inches. From that day, the stems are not growing but the leaves are continuously growing to an extend I had to get a bigger pot ( leaves are 1 foot long). Should I keep them in the same condition? Or should I try something else?
Further, I got another three white a honey bees loved them. Just waiting to see if any flowers were pollinated or not!!
Hyacinths need a cold dormant period to be able to produce new blooms. Stop watering and let the leaves turn brown. When the bulb is dry you can remove the leaves and store the bulb in a cool place (refrigerator works) for about 8 weeks. Then you can plant it in soil again and start over. See more questions and answers on this page about how to store bulbs and how to get them to rebloom.
