I have two indoor/outdoor cats. They are sisters. If my dogs (outside) bark at something, the cats will jump up and run to the window, growling as they go, to see what the threat is. Depending on the threat, they will continue to growl as they watch. I've had cats all my life, and this is the first time I've seen this behavior. It's quite entertaining! The amazing thing is that somehow they know which window to run to -- front, back or side -- to see what the dogs are barking at. My cats will also growl if they are sitting in the window and see something. This is a deep growl, not the "chipping/chirping" that they do when the see a critter (bird, bug, skink, etc.) that they can't get to.
