Growing Peace Lily Plants: Watering, Light, Repotting, and Pests

Yes, it would be wise to transfer the plants to pots with holes in them. Peace lilies prefer moist soil, but without proper drainage, the plants鈥 roots may rot. If you place the plastic pots in the ceramic ones, make sure that you pour out any excess water so that the plant isn’t left to sit in it.
I got a wonderful, small Peace Lily from my nephews and nieces for my mother's funeral and want to keep it going. The flower tips are a black/brown and I am not sure what to do. It has been in our dark garage since the funeral [5-1-19] and I got it to my office today in some pretty good conditions. What should I do for the blooms?
The blooms will fade naturally; the first priority is keeping the plant alive! Keep it in a spot that gets bright but indirect light, and keep its soil moist. The brown tips are likely a result of it being too dry. With proper care the plant should hopefully bloom again in the future!
I bought a stray peace lily at the grocery store for Easter. It has a few small flowers on it. The clerk found no tag or info on the plant but told me it could be outside when it's warm. All my apt. windows face north, so not a lot of light. Now...it's looking a bit blanched and the edges of flowers are browning. The stalks of leaves are turning pale too. I have the small pot inside a larger pot for outside. Any ideas on how to revive this poor little thing?
My Peace Lily has 11 flowers I have never had this many at one time what am I doing right to get so many at one time and should I repot it now with so many flowers I know it鈥檚 about time for me to repot it because it鈥檚 been about a year
I鈥檝e had a Peace Lily named Pricilla for about 15 years. She was blooming when I bought her at a Walmart (or Home Depot or something like that). She hasn鈥檛 bloomed again... until this year. I have two beautiful strong blooms!
Since I got Pricilla, we鈥檝e moved around a lot & I鈥檝e moved the plant around even more. I think I finally found her sweet spot. She鈥檚 in a sunny room; near, but not next to, the east facing window.
One specific change I鈥檝e made is replacing drafty windows. Who knew that eliminating the draft would be beneficial to more than my heating bill!?!
Now that I鈥檝e read this article & will attempt to separate & repot (I鈥檝e only repotted once). Wish me luck!
Thank you for the information.
I bought a beautiful peace lily with many flowers from Home Depot almost 2 years ago. Since then the initial flowers have died and NONE have ever rebloomed.
I have:
~tried different light locations including next to a couple of different windows. I currently have a grow light hovering above it about 12 hours a day.
~I just repotted it about 2 months ago. I used Miracle Grow Pottin Mix
~After reading this article I switched to filtered water vs have been using tap water
~Maybe I'm fertilizing too much. I will cut back on fertilizer.
The leaves haven't been growing recently, but are very limp and sad looking. I don't see any new leave growth or flower growth. I feel like giving up on it and tossing it out, but I really want to bring this one back to life. What can I do?
Peace lilies can be a mystery when it comes to blooming; some will bloom without any extra effort, others can receive all the care in the world and not produce a single flower.
It sounds like you are doing everything right (including cutting back on fertilizer). Peace lilies need bright light to bloom, so the combination of a window seat and a grow light should be great.
As for watering: during the spring and summer, keep the plant’s soil moist (not soaked!). Limp leaves can be a sign of lack of water or too much water, so try to judge how much you are giving it and adjust accordingly.
I bought my first peace lily today! The one I got doesn't have the dark green glossy leaves but has thinner faintly mosaic ones. I haven't been able to find if it's a specific species with this feature as there were others the same as mine, and others with the normal glossy leaves. There are some newer leaves on the bottom that are a little glossier and without the mosaic, would it just be a sunlight/water problem?
I just rescued a peace lily at the local grocery store, it was reduced to less than half off because it didn鈥檛 have a flower like all the other ones. This is my first peace lily, and I鈥檓 going to re-pot it (with the hopes it will grow to be big and beautiful since someone thought she wasn鈥檛 worth much). Is regular potting soil good, and should I add fertilizer now or just wait? Thanks!
