Prevent Fungus Gnat Infestations!

Right on Marcus! I thought the same thing about Dorian's comment. 🤣
I have 51 house plants, and every one of them have pebbles covering every bit of soil and I still have gnats. They just crawl out from under rocks and start their party. I've tried 3 different types of the yellow stick paper, Neeum Oil, sand on top of the soil, and I've even completely replanted them, (lost 3 in the process); washed the pots out. rinsed the roots and replanted them. They come back though. Those little ^$%%&$.
I have a lot of tropical plants and with the humidity they need I doubt I'll ever get rid of them. I, too, was hoping I'd get some other answers in this article. :(
I have this issue right now!! I got neem oil and I have been misting with that and spraying right at the base of the growth spot. Two weeks now and I have little roots again on my babies. I lost three already. The sticky traps worked to get 150 plus adults though! That’s 300 eggs a female! So sticky traps def helped! Go get that neem oil ☺️
Try Diatomaceous earth...has the same drying effect on bugs...I learned not to put the entire bag of potting soil in the can, but to pour a few gallons and sprinkle with D.E. then repeat. For my plants, I have a old salt shaker that I use to sprinkle it around. No bugs so the tree frogs leave. I capture them and put them back outside...lol
Try Mixing 1 part peroxide with 4 parts water... pour it through the soil at the root zone until it begins to come out of the base of pot. Peroxide kills fungus gnat larve on contact. Neem oil is also effective soil drench.
A layer of sand, small gravel, or even perlite can help to prevent adult gnats from accessing the soil from above, but it needs to be a relatively thick layer (at least 1/2 inch) and doesn’t prevent them from getting in through the bottom of the pot.
We’ve had the most success using a combination of sticky fly traps to capture the adults and water treated with mosquito dunks to kill the larvae in the soil.
I heard one part peroxide to four parts water kills larvae on contact. Don’t water too often with this though I do it every other time I water my plant.
Plain, drugstore 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol sprayed on the surface soil has worked for me. Not sure if it would hurt the plant to water immediately after, but I've always waited a day to water after spritzing on alcohol. I don't get these gnats very often, but when I have, rubbing alcohol has always worked.
Oh Lord I got them from re-potting a houseplant. They must have been in the new soil. I used the yellow sticky traps and made water from mosquito bits. I almost have them under control. Now I have another plant that needs to be re-potted. So I have potting soil baking in the oven at 400 degrees. After it cools I will feel safe to use it. These things are a hot mess!!!!!
I had a terrible I mean terrible time with these things I used everything everyone on this sight is saying the d earth will kill your plant an your soil neem oil slow but helps I ordered everything but the only thing that worked was yellow sticky traps neem oil an the blue light sticky traps all brought on amazon .I left the light plugged in 24hrs changed yellow sticky paper once full an light as well an sprayed with the oil but you have to stay with it check traps every day (traps dynatrap)please buy extra sticky paper it will fill up fast an let plants completely dry out between watering an make house completely dark at night only traps glowing this totally saved my plants an I didn't lose any I did almost lose my mind though!
